SOLO

I make music with instruments built out of old machines!

I perform with acoustic string instruments built by Mayim Alpert and Lauri Kallinen. The tailor's fiddle is a four stringed drone instrument built out of an old sewing machine, while the qwerty kantele is built around an old typewriter.

My solo music is both meditative and aggresive, drawing inspiration from folk music, sound art and noise.

"One of summer’s most original records [...] he’s spun straw into gold." Richard Allen, A closer listen

"Hats off to Holm, who didn't make noise just for the sake of noise, but instead explored unknown places." Mika Roth, desibeli.net

Barlast is a playful laboratory of musical communication and expression. Founded in 2016, Barlast has released four albums and performed their ecletic blend of Nordic folk music, contemporary music, jazz and art rock in clubs, festivals and showcase festivals around Europe and Japan.

"Proportionality in harmony and disharmony, density and scarcity, loudness and silence is the key to the alchemy of Barlast’s sound." - Balazs Weyer / Finnish Music Quarterly

OIRO PENA

"The spiritual jazz vibe of the late 60s and 70s, spearheaded by the Coltranes, Pharoah Sanders and Sun Ra is being recharged by a new generation!" - Jazz Journal

"This is so good, from Finland, this is Oiro Pena!" - Gilles Peterson, BBC

"Oiro Pena's music has previously been labeled underground, outsider, low-fi, folky; also energetic, astral, psychospiritual, warm; and akin to Sun Ra and Moondog. Can't really argue with any of that and if I was in a rush (and not obliged to meet a word count) that could easily be the review pretty much finished." - UK Vibe

BUKO SHANE

Buko Shane plays songs with echoes from the other side of the Atlantic ocean.

The band mixes the sounds of organic singer/songwriter material with rawer electrified sounds, and even steps into the world of unfettered improvisation and experimental music.

"Buko Shane quickly piqued our interests [...] The material was a pretty eclectic collection, and well-executed – I certainly enjoyed them!" - Bear Wiseman, Tuonela Magazine

Heikki Hänninen - vocals and guitar
Ville Tolvanen - electric organ
Philip Holm - bass and tailor's fiddle
Joonas Anttila - drums

THE BIKINI BROTHERS

The Bikini Brothers is the only known cold war revival band, playing forgotten American songs about the atomic bomb and the cold war.

Antti Korhola - fiddle, mandolin, vocals
Philip Holm - double bass, vocals

67 x NAKED

67xNaked, founded in 2017, is a fierce, original and performative jazz ensemble, touring actively across Finland, the Baltics, the UK and Ireland. Known for their surprise-filled, improvisation-driven shows, the group blends the raw energy, playfulness, and boldness of early jazz and blues with joy, creativity, and a deep commitment to the freedom of performance.

Their repertoire spans 1920s–40s jazz, original compositions, spoken word, performance art, and dance. Jazz acts as the foundation for a strongly siteresponsive and improvised experience; always unique, always alive in the moment.

67xNaked bows to no genre or boundary. Instead, they carry forward the legacy of early jazz as a form of liberation; a cry, a celebration, and a spark of joy in the midst of a chaotic world.

Jimbino Vegan - clarinet and vocals
Tomi Kettunen - guitar
Philip Holm - double bass
Alm Gnista - percussion and spoken word

Lately also featuring guest such as James Beaumont, Alice Riberolles, Ville Tolvanen and Otto Porkkala, sometimes extending the band to a sextet.

KLEZMER

Joining the Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye in 2013 was the starting point for my ongoing interest in klezmer. Playing with Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye has given the opportunity to dive into the tradition, sometimes alongside of contemporary greats in the international klezmer scene. Alongside of playing in the HKK, I have also performed with smaller ensembles, such as Vallila Klezmorim and Alevtina Parland's ensembles.

KREPSKO

I've worked with the theatre group Krepsko in different projects since 2013, most notably the performances Fabsurdia and Illuminium as well as the Krepsko cabarets.
